Finger Lakes-area golfers made a strong showing Monday at The Links at Greystone, where four local players earned spots in U.S. Open Final Qualifying and moved one step closer to competing at this year’s national championship.
More than 70 professional and amateur golfers competed in the 2026 U.S. Open Local Qualifier at the Walworth course, with the top five finishers advancing to Final Qualifying for a chance to play in the U.S. Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills Country Club in Southampton on June 19-21.
Jackson Ormond of Rochester led the field and was the only golfer to finish under par, carding a 2-under round to secure medalist honors.
Ormond was even through the front nine before catching fire late in the round. He birdied four holes between Nos. 12 and 17 to climb to 4-under before a double bogey on the final hole dropped him back to 2-under. Even with the late stumble, he still finished three shots clear of the rest of the field.
Three golfers tied for second at 1-over par: Aiden Spampinato of Rochester, Owen Corby of Pittsford, and Caleb Bopp of Fishers, Indiana.
The final qualifying spot went to Yaroslav Merkulov of Sodus, who finished at 3-over par.
Several other local golfers narrowly missed advancing. Danny Wehle and Tyler Burchett, both Rochester natives, finished at 5-over, just outside the cut line.
Victor golfers Brody Burgess and Alex Zurat each posted rounds of 6-over, while Rochester’s Andrew Fedele finished at 8-over. Alexander Hill of Victor and Matt Carpentier of Pittsford both carded 9-over rounds.
