A proposed long-term development plan in Ulysses is drawing criticism from residents who fear it could reshape the town with denser housing and suburban sprawl, according to The Tompkins Weekly. Former planning board member Sarah Adams urged residents to review the draft Comprehensive Plan 2045 before the Town Board votes in June.
Adams argued the proposal shifts focus away from preserving farmland and rural character, which she said residents strongly supported in community surveys. She also questioned whether higher-density zoning would actually create affordable housing.
The town approved only about seven new housing permits each year while population numbers continue to decline, Adams wrote. She warned expanded development could increase costs for taxpayers without enough public discussion before adoption.
