Residents in the Village of Rushville are being advised to boil tap water before use after the New York State Department of Health issued a boil water notice over concerns involving the safety of the public water supply.
The advisory remains in effect until additional water testing confirms the system is safe for consumption, according to health officials.
Officials said all tap water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute and then allowed to cool before being used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, preparing infant formula, or giving water to pets.
The Department of Health said showering and bathing remain safe during the advisory, though residents should avoid swallowing water. Laundry can also continue as normal as long as clothing is fully dried before use.
Residents with questions are encouraged to contact the New York State Department of Health’s Geneva District Office at 315-789-3030.
Officials are also urging residents to share the advisory with neighbors and others in the community to help ensure the notice reaches all affected households.
