Yates County legislators will confront a wide-ranging agenda Monday that includes infrastructure spending, emergency response planning, insurance renewals and discussions about escalating bridge rehabilitation costs.
The meeting schedule begins with a special Public Works Committee session at noon focused on the Ferguson Corners Road Bridge rehabilitation project, where county officials are expected to discuss projected costs, scheduling impacts and expanded scope tied to a temporary access bridge requirement.
The full Yates County Legislature meeting follows at 1 p.m., with lawmakers set to consider more than 30 resolutions covering public safety, highway operations, staffing, budgeting and county partnerships.
Among the more significant items is a proposal to establish new specialty rescue teams through the county Office of Emergency Services, including a surface and swift water rescue team, hazardous materials decontamination team and fire investigation unit. Legislators are expected to schedule a June public hearing before moving forward with the authorization.
Infrastructure and public works issues are expected to dominate much of the meeting. Legislators will consider awarding a $1.288 million drainage improvement contract for the County Route 15 and Pre-Emption Road project in the hamlet of Bellona after flooding and drainage failures identified last year.
County officials are also seeking approval for agreements tied to fuel purchasing, asbestos surveying related to the Sid White Road bridge and new software systems for highway and buildings-and-grounds operations. One proposal would authorize up to $9,000 in tablet purchases tied to a new countywide tracking and maintenance system.
The legislature is also expected to vote on several financial measures, including appropriations tied to social services funding, cannabis tax revenue allocations, airport reserve funding and future budget stabilization assignments.
Other agenda items include authorizing a five-year memorandum of understanding with Keuka College that would provide county employees and families discounts on certain tuition programs, approving insurance renewals totaling nearly $480,000 and increasing the county public health director salary from $87,000 to $92,000.
Lawmakers are additionally expected to proclaim May 17-23 as Emergency Medical Services Week and May 25 as Memorial Day in Yates County.
