Thompson Health honors Sodus Point woman as Associate of the Year

UR Medicine Thompson Health recognized dozens of employees this week during its annual Shining Stars Awards Ceremony, including naming a longtime certified nursing assistant educator from Sodus Point as its Associate of the Year.

Barbara Philbrick, who works at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, received the organization’s top honor during the May 5 ceremony celebrating employees across the health system.

Philbrick serves as the certified nursing assistant educator for Thompson’s nursing home operations. Thompson Health President and CEO Michael Stapleton Jr. praised her ability to teach complex skills while also emphasizing empathy and patient-centered care.

Stapleton said Philbrick has helped many students overcome personal, financial and academic barriers while training for careers in healthcare.

The Shining Stars program has been part of Thompson Health for more than two decades. Employees are nominated by coworkers and selected through a peer review process. This year, 45 employees were honored from departments throughout the health system.

Among the recipients were employees from emergency medicine, intensive care, surgery, rehabilitation, obstetrics, physician practice management, laboratory services, respiratory therapy and long-term care operations.

Honorees included associates from communities throughout the Finger Lakes and greater Rochester region, including Canandaigua, Geneva, Farmington, Naples, Penn Yan, Victor, Rochester and several surrounding towns.

Thompson Health currently employs nearly 2,300 associates, making it Ontario County’s largest employer.
