After sitting idle for a year during the reconstruction of the Seneca Falls Harbor, Canal Fest is returning this summer with organizers planning an expanded three-day celebration tied to America’s 250th anniversary.
The annual festival will run July 3 through July 5 along the Cayuga-Seneca Canal in downtown Seneca Falls, bringing back fireworks, live music, food vendors, family activities, and the community traditions that have made the event one of the region’s biggest Independence Day weekend attractions.
Organizers say this year’s event will feature several new additions, including an expanded children’s area, a Touch-a-Truck experience, and the first Canal Fest Swap Meet on July 5.
The festival opens Friday, July 3 at noon and continues through Sunday night’s fireworks display over Van Cleef Lake. Vendors and food trucks will line Cowing Street while live music performances take place throughout the weekend at People’s Park.
Families will also have access to inflatables, games, crafts, a petting zoo, and hands-on exhibits featuring emergency vehicles, farm equipment, fire trucks, and construction machinery.
Cornhole tournaments organized by Between the Lakes Cornhole Club and Game of Throws Cornhole are scheduled throughout the weekend at Red Brick Pub and sponsored by Wolffy’s Grill & Marina.
Featured musical acts include The Frank & Julie Band on Friday evening, NEO Project on Saturday night, and The Noble Rebels leading into Sunday’s fireworks finale.
Organizers are also planning a patriotic parade through downtown Seneca Falls on Sunday evening to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. The parade will step off on Fall Street at 5 p.m., with community organizations, businesses, schools, and families invited to participate with floats, decorated vehicles, and themed entries.
The popular Canal Fest Duck Race will also return Sunday afternoon, with more than 1,500 rubber ducks expected to be dropped into the canal from the Bridge Street bridge for a race toward the Ovid Street bridge. Organizers said more than $2,500 in prizes and cash will be awarded.
“This weekend is about community, family, music, tradition, and celebrating the canal that helped shape our community,” said Haidee Oropallo, president of It’s A Wonderful Life Seneca Falls Inc. and Canal Fest.
Festival organizers said volunteers are still needed for several areas of the event, including music coordination, children’s activities, security, entrances, and festival operations.
This year’s Canal Fest is receiving support through the 2026 Canal System Grant Program administered by the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and the New York State Canal Corporation, along with contributions from local sponsors and community organizations.
