Yoshida earns Ivy Rookie honors after dominant finish for Cornell baseball

Ross Yoshida capped a standout stretch to close his freshman season, earning Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors as the Cornell Big Red wrapped up the regular season with an 11-26 record, including an 8-13 mark in conference play.

Yoshida, a freshman right-hander, secured the award for the second time in three weeks following a dominant weekend against Columbia. He threw 5.1 hitless innings across two appearances, helping Cornell control key moments in a doubleheader. Yoshida earned the win in the opener with 4.1 hitless innings, then returned later in the day to deliver a scoreless ninth inning, finishing the weekend with a 0.19 WHIP.

His performance ranked among the best nationally over the past week, tying for the fifth-most hitless innings among Division I pitchers in that span. Yoshida’s late-season surge highlighted his consistency on the mound, as he allowed just two earned runs over his final 19.2 innings across six appearances.

For the season, Yoshida finished 3-1 with a 2.89 ERA in 43.2 innings, limiting opposing hitters to a .199 average while recording 42 strikeouts. His strikeout total ranks fourth among freshmen in program history and marks the highest total by a Cornell first-year since 2023.

Cornell’s scheduled regular-season finale against Binghamton on Tuesday was canceled, bringing the Big Red’s season to a close.
