Feminist monument tour to begin in Seneca Falls with national spotlight

A nationally recognized artist is bringing a high-profile feminist art installation to Seneca Falls next month, placing the birthplace of the women’s rights movement at the center of a nationwide tour timed to a pivotal election year.

Tiffany Shlain’s traveling sculpture, Dendrofemonology: A Feminist History Tree Ring, will debut its 2026 tour during the Right to Run weekend celebration on May 8–9, before moving to a longer installation at the National Women’s Hall of Fame through the summer.

The 65-inch sculpture, crafted from reclaimed cedar, presents a sweeping timeline of human history through a feminist lens, with inscriptions tracing the arc of women’s rights from ancient civilizations to modern milestones, including the fall of Roe v. Wade. The final entry reads simply “Today,” inviting viewers to reflect on the present moment and their role in shaping what comes next.

Organizers say the tour is designed to spark conversation around women’s rights and climate issues at a time of heightened national attention. Seneca Falls was selected as the launch site due to its historic significance as the location of the 1848 women’s rights convention.

The installation nearly faced delays after federal review requirements temporarily held up permitting at the Women’s Rights National Historical Park. The permit was ultimately approved ahead of the event, allowing the sculpture to be displayed during the Mother’s Day weekend celebration.

Following the opening events, the piece will be on display at the National Women’s Hall of Fame from May 10 through August, before traveling to Texas later this year in conjunction with the 2026 midterm elections.

The Right to Run weekend will include races along historic landmarks, author events, and community programming centered on women’s leadership and civic engagement.
