Aurelius man jailed after welfare fraud arrest

A Cayuga County man was taken into custody this week on felony welfare fraud charges following a joint investigation by local and state authorities.

Jason S. McCraw, 43, of Aurelius, was arrested April 29 on an outstanding warrant issued out of Auburn City Court, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

McCraw was charged with fourth-degree welfare fraud, fourth-degree grand larceny, and misuse of food stamps, all class E felonies. Officials said the case was investigated by the county’s Department of Social Services Case Integrity Unit, along with the sheriff’s office and district attorney’s office.

Following his arrest, McCraw was arraigned at CAP Court and remanded to the custody of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
