FLCC logging sports captures first Open title at regional championship

The Finger Lakes Community College logging sports team delivered a historic performance at the Northeast Collegiate Logging Sports Championship on Sunday at Oneida Shores Park in Brewerton, New York, capturing the Open Division title while competing as the only two-year program in a 12-team field. The Lakers also placed second in the Women’s Division, third in the Men’s Division and fourth with their second Open team, capping one of the strongest overall showings in program history.

The Open Division championship marked the first in program history for FLCC, adding to a legacy that now includes 41 titles across all divisions since 1974. Led by captain Dylan Peck, the Open team edged Alfred State by 14 points in a tightly contested competition. The Lakers dominated across multiple events, earning first-place finishes in Single Buck, Obstacle Pole, Doubles Fire Build, Doubles Standing Block Chop and Triples Underhand Chop, along with top marks in Team Packboard, Pulp Toss and Log Roll. They also excelled in canoe events, securing victories in both Singles Canoe and Portage Canoe.

FLCC’s Women’s team pushed to a second-place finish after leading early, highlighted by individual wins in Bow Saw Power Stroke and Obstacle Pole, along with strong team performances. The Men’s team, featuring several first-year competitors, placed third and finished just 50 points out of first place, showing depth and promise.

Finger Lakes Community College concludes its season following the championship meet, with a core group of returning athletes set to build on the program’s momentum in Fall 2026.
