Geneva police officer, resident injured in dog attack on Austin Place

A late-afternoon dog attack in Geneva left a resident seriously injured and a police officer hurt while responding.

Police say the incident unfolded around 4:45 p.m. Monday on Austin Place, where officers were dispatched for a reported dog attack and quickly encountered a chaotic and dangerous situation.

When officers arrived, they found a city resident suffering from multiple bite wounds to the lower body. Police immediately applied a tourniquet to control bleeding before emergency medical transport was arranged. While assisting the victim, officers came into contact with a medium-sized pit bull that then bit one of the responding officers.

The injured resident was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The officer was treated at Geneva General Hospital and later released.

Authorities said the dog’s owner was located and took possession of the animal following the incident. The Geneva Police Department is now working with the Ontario County Humane Society as the investigation continues, and criminal charges against the owner are pending.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Geneva Police Department.
