The Finger Lakes Community College men’s track and field team competed through challenging conditions on Sunday at the Cardinal Classic, delivering several strong individual performances despite difficult weather throughout the meet. The Lakers showed resilience across multiple events, highlighted by regional qualification and personal-record efforts on both the track and in distance races.
Hester Van Der Lek led the way with a standout showing in the middle-distance events, qualifying for Regionals in the 800 meters with a time of 3:14.17 while also setting a second consecutive personal record in the 1500 meters at 6:19.97. Megan McGregor added to the momentum in the 1500 meters, recording her third straight personal best with a time of 8:25.38.
In the distance events, William Andrew turned in a strong performance in the 10,000 meters, posting a personal-record time of 38:36.67. Ruairi Steverson also contributed with a versatile effort across multiple events. The Lakers saw additional near-qualifying marks, as Isabella Murabito narrowly missed the regional standard in the 200 meters by just .05 seconds, while Griffin Miller added a solid showing in the 10,000 meters.
Both 4×400-meter relay teams competed through the conditions, with the men finishing in 3:58.16 as part of a full-team effort that underscored the group’s determination and steady improvement.
Finger Lakes Community College returns to competition next weekend as the Lakers continue their outdoor season schedule.
