Cornell softball swept by Brown in doubleheader

The Cornell softball team was swept by Brown on Sunday at Niemand-Robison Field, falling 5-3 in the opener before dropping a 14-1 run-rule decision in five innings, as the Big Red were overmatched in a doubleheader that secured the series for the Bears. Cornell’s offense showed flashes, but Brown’s early scoring and sustained pressure proved decisive in both games.

Emma Harshberger paced Cornell across the two contests, going 2-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBIs in Game 1 before adding another hit and RBI in Game 2. Charlize Cai and Tarisa Frans combined for five hits and multiple runs scored, accounting for much of the Big Red’s production. In the opener, Cornell rallied from a four-run deficit with RBIs from Frans and Lauren Holt before Harshberger’s sixth-inning home run cut the margin to one, but Brown added an insurance run in the seventh to hold on.

In Game 2, Brown seized control early with three runs in the first and five more in the second to build a commanding lead. Olivia Green drove in Cornell’s lone run, but defensive miscues and continued offensive pressure from the Bears extended the margin to 14-1, ending the game after five innings. Cornell’s pitching staff combined to allow 19 runs on the day, with Mila Fiordalisi tossing a complete game in the opener.
