The Rochester Americans were eliminated from the Calder Cup Playoffs on Sunday, falling 4-2 to the Toronto Marlies in the decisive Game 3 of their first-round series at Coca-Cola Coliseum, as Rochester’s season ended with a 2-1 series loss. The Amerks battled throughout but were forced to play from behind nearly the entire night against a deep Toronto lineup.
Rochester surrendered an early goal just 2:12 into the game on a Toronto rush and trailed for the remainder of the contest. Logan Shaw struck twice in the second period to extend the Marlies’ lead, though the Amerks answered each time to stay within reach. Konsta Helenius sparked Rochester with a goal midway through the second, finishing off a quick transition chance, while Olivier Nadeau later buried a setup in the slot to cut the deficit to one.
Devon Levi kept the Amerks within striking distance, stopping 35 of 38 shots after delivering a shutout performance in Game 2. Rochester pressed late with the net empty and a sixth attacker on the ice, but Toronto goaltender Dennis Hildeby came up with a key save before William Villeneuve sealed the outcome with an empty-net goal in the final minutes.
The Amerks, who clinched a playoff berth on the final day of the regular season, pushed the series to the limit but could not complete the comeback. Rochester concludes its season following the Game 3 loss, while Toronto advances to face Laval in the North Division semifinals.
