The William Smith Herons closed out the regular season on Saturday with a 10-5 victory over the Washington and Lee Generals at USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland. With the win, the No. 7 Herons improved to 15-2 overall, holding the No. 6 Generals to a season-low scoring output in a statement non-conference performance.
William Smith set the tone early and never trailed, fueled by a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defensive effort. Mia Falco led the way with four points on two goals and two assists, while Grace Rund recorded a hat trick and controlled the draw with five wins. Delaney Cassidy and Kira Fulton each added two goals, supporting an offense that consistently applied pressure.
The Herons dominated from the opening whistle, building a 5-0 lead after the first quarter behind sharp ball movement and efficient finishing. That cushion grew to 7-1 by halftime as the defense limited quality chances and disrupted Washington and Lee’s rhythm.
Despite a push from the Generals in the third quarter, William Smith maintained control. The defense, led by Janey Sypeck’s four caused turnovers, held an opponent averaging more than 15 goals per game to just five while allowing only 15 total shots. Casey Fiore anchored the unit in goal, playing all 60 minutes and making five saves.
Cassidy added two fourth-quarter goals to help seal the result and cap a complete performance on both ends.
William Smith will return to action on Friday, May 1, when it hosts a Liberty League semifinal. Game time will be announced.
