New traffic light in Waterloo sits unused

Five crashes in a month have put a spotlight on a Waterloo intersection where safety upgrades still aren’t working, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

Seneca County officials say flashing signals at Route 96 and Brewer Road were installed months ago but remain wrapped in plastic and without power. The system would force drivers on Brewer Road to stop and warn Route 96 traffic to slow down.

County leaders are now pressing the state for answers, calling the delay dangerous. Transportation officials say the holdup falls on the electric provider, not the state, but they haven’t given a timeline to switch the lights on.
