A full slate of hands-on art workshops is coming to downtown Seneca Falls next month, offering opportunities for beginners and experienced artists alike to explore new techniques and mediums.
The Seneca County Arts Council announced that Artworks Gallery on Fall Street will host a series of classes throughout May, led by artist Roberta Nelson and covering everything from acrylic design to watercolor landscapes.
The lineup begins May 2 with “Designs from the Imagination,” a one-day workshop focused on non-objective acrylic painting techniques, including hard-edge painting and glazing. Participants will build layered compositions using masking and color application to create abstract designs.
Several multi-week sessions follow, including “Op Art with Focal Points,” a three-week Thursday series starting May 7 that centers on optical illusion techniques using layered paper designs on canvas. Another offering, “Colored Pencil Basics,” runs Fridays from May 8 through May 29 and will cover foundational skills like layering, shading, and blending methods across four sessions.
Additional single-day workshops include “Mixed Media Florals” on May 16, which blends watercolor with dry mediums like colored pencil or pastels to create textured floral compositions, and “Spring Landscape in Watercolors” on May 23, where participants will learn core techniques for painting seasonal outdoor scenes.
Each workshop requires participants to bring their own materials, with some supplies provided depending on the class. Costs range from $15 to $40 per session, with registration deadlines set in advance of each workshop.
All sessions will be held at Artworks Gallery, located at 109 Fall Street. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., though visitors are encouraged to call ahead to confirm staffing.
Registration for workshops is available by email.
