The Tompkins Cortland Community College baseball team put together one of its most complete performances of the season on Thursday, sweeping SUNY Broome in a doubleheader with 9-1 and 15-2 wins on the road. The Panthers improved to 4-27 overall and 3-16 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference, while Broome dropped to 7-21 and 3-9 in conference play.
TCCC baseball broke open a tight opener with a four-run third inning after two scoreless frames. Tim Leary sparked the rally with a one-out double, setting the tone for an offense that stayed aggressive throughout. After Broome answered with a run in the bottom half, the Panthers added insurance with two runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth.
Nathan Joly anchored the first game on the mound, going the distance while allowing just two hits and one unearned run over seven innings. He struck out four in a steady outing. At the plate, Keelan Marren led the way, finishing 3-for-4 with four runs batted in as part of an 11-hit performance.
The offense carried that momentum into game two. After both teams scored in the first inning, the Panthers capitalized on free passes and timely hitting to take control. Five runs came across in the second inning, all with two outs, before a nine-run third inning put the game out of reach.
Jake Malkowski delivered another strong pitching performance, tossing five innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out five. Easton Podbeusek paced the offense with a perfect 4-for-4 game and five RBI.
TCCC baseball will travel to Jamestown Community College on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
