A legendary lake creature is about to spill out of the water and into the streets, according to The Ithaca Voice. Ithaca will host a weeklong arts explosion celebrating “Old Greeny,” a long-rumored cryptid said to lurk in Cayuga Lake.
The Old Greeny Fringe Fest will run April 27 through May 3, bringing roughly 60 performances to more than a dozen venues. Organizer Sylvie Froncek said the idea grew from local fascination with the creature and evolved into a full-scale fringe festival.
City leaders even made it official. Ithaca recognized Old Greeny as its protected “cryptid,” adding a playful but symbolic layer to the celebration of local folklore and community identity.
