Geneva police report string of arrests tied to domestic incidents, DWI enforcement

A series of arrests in Geneva over the past week highlight a mix of domestic-related incidents, low-level theft, and impaired driving cases, according to the city police department’s latest blotter.

The report, covering April 15 through April 23, outlines five arrests across the city, with multiple cases involving alleged domestic disputes and two involving driving while intoxicated.

Police activity during the period ranged from property damage and harassment complaints to traffic stops that led to DWI charges, underscoring the variety of calls handled by officers on a daily basis.

Two of the reported arrests stemmed from domestic-related situations, both resulting in criminal mischief charges. In one case, a 19-year-old Geneva resident was charged after allegedly throwing a hammer through a residential window and sending threatening text messages following a dispute on Exchange Street. In a separate incident on Lafayette Avenue, a 50-year-old man was arrested after police say he prevented another person from contacting emergency services during a domestic situation. Both cases were classified as complaint-based arrests.

Police also reported a petit larceny arrest involving a 32-year-old Geneva resident accused of stealing merchandise valued at $3.99 from Wegmans earlier this month. While minor in value, the charge reflects routine enforcement of theft complaints, which remain a consistent part of local police activity.

Two additional arrests involved driving while intoxicated following traffic stops. A 43-year-old Geneva man was charged with DWI after being pulled over on Castle Street for failing to signal a lane change. Police reported a blood alcohol content of 0.10 percent. In another case, a 19-year-old driver from Clinton was stopped on Exchange Street for speeding and later charged with DWI and open container violations. Officers reported the vehicle contained an open 40-ounce bottle of alcohol, and the driver refused a breath test. Both incidents were classified as crimes in progress.
