The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers women’s track and field team turned in another strong performance on Tuesday at a collegiate meet in the Rochester, highlighted by Ella Simson’s national-qualifying effort in the long jump as the program continues its steady rise during the outdoor season.
Finger Lakes Community College was paced by Simson, who delivered the top moment of the day by reaching a mark of 4.81 meters in the long jump to secure a spot at nationals. On the track, Ruairi Steverson produced one of the most notable improvements of the meet, trimming significant time in the 1500 meters to finish in 4:24.47. Megan McGregor added to the momentum in the same event, posting a second straight personal best and continuing her consistent progression as the season advances.
The Lakers also saw encouraging development across multiple events. Several athletes are closing in on national standards, signaling the group’s upward trajectory. Xxavier Benjamin showed growth in the long jump, while Kyle Brooks continued to make strides in the high jump. In the field events, Hanna Grace Check once again provided a steady presence in the throws, delivering another strong outing.
The Lakers will look to carry that momentum into their next meet on Saturday at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by St. John Fisher University, with events scheduled to begin in the morning.
