Cornell softball erupts for 27 runs in doubleheader sweep of Binghamton

The Cornell Big Red softball team swept the Binghamton Bearcats softball team, 10-6 and 17-14, on Tuesday at Niemand-Robison Field, using explosive offense in both games to secure the doubleheader sweep. Cornell’s lineup combined for 27 runs on 27 hits, improving its momentum heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

Cornell leaned on a balanced offensive attack throughout the twin bill, highlighted by Lauren Holt’s standout performance. Holt went 6-for-9 across the two games with a home run, three doubles and four RBIs, while Charlize Cai delivered a game-changing grand slam in the opener and finished with six RBIs. The Big Red built leads with timely hitting, including a four-run second inning and a grand slam that broke open game one, while also responding quickly to Binghamton rallies.

In the first game, Cornell answered multiple Bearcats pushes, including a three-run inning that tied the game, before reclaiming control with Cai’s grand slam in the fifth. Mila Fiordalisi went the distance in the circle, allowing six runs while working through key moments to secure the 10-6 win.

Game two featured even more offense, as Cornell erupted for nine runs in the first inning to build a commanding lead. Binghamton responded with a nine-run fourth inning and later took the lead, but the Big Red answered again. Holt sparked the comeback with a home run before a five-run sixth inning sealed the 17-14 victory. Emma Harshberger earned the win, and Fiordalisi returned to close out the game.
