Bruno Bock to close Waterloo production, shift operations as part of broader expansion

A global specialty chemicals company plans to shut down production at its Waterloo facility this year as part of a broader strategy to reshape and expand its North American operations.

Bruno Bock announced it will cease sulfur product manufacturing at its Waterloo plant during the second quarter of 2026, with the site transitioning to a regional distribution center.

The move is part of a larger restructuring effort aimed at strengthening the company’s position in specialty chemical markets following recent business changes, including the divestment of its thioester segment and the acquisition of ipox chemicals.

Company officials said the changes are designed to better align operations with customer needs and support long-term growth. While production will end in Waterloo, the company indicated it intends to maintain a presence in the community through distribution activities and ongoing business relationships.

As part of the expansion, Bruno Bock will open a regional application laboratory in Durham, North Carolina, during the second quarter of 2026. The facility will include advanced testing capabilities and is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year.

The company also plans to relocate its U.S. headquarters from Teaneck, New Jersey, to a 7,500-square-foot facility in Durham during the third quarter of 2026.

Looking ahead, Bruno Bock said it will begin searching for a new manufacturing site closer to suppliers and customers, with a modern, multi-purpose facility targeted for completion in 2028.

Company leadership said the adjustments reflect a long-term commitment to building a more competitive and regionally focused operation in North America.
