Volunteers invited to help prepare Fillmore Glen for summer season

A full morning of hands-on work and community connection is planned at Fillmore Glen State Park, where volunteers will gather May 2 to help prepare the popular destination for the busy summer season.

Friends of Fillmore Glen will host the annual I Love My Park Day event from 9 a.m. to noon, inviting individuals and groups of all ages to take part in a wide range of cleanup and improvement projects.

Organizers say the effort will focus on tasks critical to maintaining the park’s infrastructure and natural features, including clearing the gorge trail, supporting bridge repair work, replacing damaged nest boxes, planting trees, removing invasive species, and general cleanup. Volunteers will also help with playground maintenance and garden work.

Registration will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the park’s Main Pavilion, followed by a group photo at 9 a.m. Light refreshments will be available in the morning, and a pizza lunch will be provided for volunteers at noon.

Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and gloves and bring tools if available. Park staff will also provide equipment, and organizers recommend bringing water bottles and using tick protection.

While walk-ins are welcome, preregistration is encouraged to help organizers plan for turnout and resources.

Organizers say the annual event plays a key role in getting Fillmore Glen ready for the camping season and reopening of its well-known gorge trail, while also bringing together community members with a shared interest in preserving outdoor spaces.
