Mets set to get Juan Soto back Wednesday

The New York Mets are expected to get a major boost as Juan Soto could be activated from the injured list before Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The team has not officially confirmed the move, but Soto’s return would come at a critical time for a struggling club.

Before suffering a right calf strain on April 3, Soto was one of baseball’s most productive hitters. The 27-year-old four-time All-Star recorded a hit in all eight games he played, posting a .355 batting average with a .412 on-base percentage and a .516 slugging percentage. He added one home run and two doubles before being placed on the injured list on April 6.

New York showed early promise, sitting at 4-4 after a 10-3 win over the San Francisco Giants in Soto’s last appearance, then winning three straight. Since then, the Mets have endured an 11-game losing streak, briefly falling into a tie for the worst record in the majors.

Soto’s impact last season highlights his importance to the lineup. He appeared in 160 games during his first year in New York, leading the National League with 38 stolen bases while also hitting 43 home runs and drawing a Major League-best 127 walks.
