The New York Mets fell to the Minnesota Twins, 5-3, on Tuesday night at Citi Field, extending their losing streak to 12 games after letting a late lead slip away. New York carried a three-run advantage into the middle innings but could not hold it.
The Mets appeared in control early behind Nolan McLean, who was electric through the first five innings. The right-hander retired the first 15 batters he faced, striking out eight during that stretch and flirting with perfection. His bid ended in the sixth, and momentum shifted quickly when a two-run home run cut the lead. McLean battled through 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out 10, but the game was tied by the time he exited.
Offensively, New York’s biggest moment came in the third inning. Francisco Lindor delivered a three-run home run to right field, giving the Mets a 3-0 lead and briefly energizing the lineup. However, that proved to be their only scoring, as the offense went quiet late and the final 14 hitters were retired in order.
The decisive blow came in the ninth. With the game tied, Devin Williams struggled with his command, issuing walks and allowing a go-ahead hit before forcing in another run. The inning unraveled quickly, turning a tight contest into another loss.
The Mets (7-16) will look to snap the skid when they host the Twins (12-11) again on Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. at Citi Field.
