Canandaigua to host National Day of Prayer breakfast

A longstanding national observance will take on a local focus in Canandaigua next month, as community members gather for a morning of reflection, fellowship, and recognition of a major milestone in addressing homelessness.

The Canandaigua National Day of Prayer Breakfast is scheduled for Thursday, May 7, bringing residents together to mark the annual day set aside for prayer and meditation across the United States.

The event will run from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the American Legion Post 256 on North Main Street. Organizers say the breakfast is part of the nationwide National Day of Prayer, recognized by Congress as a time for individuals and communities to come together in reflection.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Todd Bernhardt, executive director of Family Promise of Ontario County. Bernhardt began volunteering with the organization in 2017 and now leads efforts that recently resulted in the establishment of the county’s first family homeless shelter.

Organizers say the event will highlight that achievement while offering attendees an opportunity to connect with neighbors and reflect on the past year.

Tickets are $10 per person and include breakfast. They can be purchased in advance online or paid at the door with cash or check.

The event is organized by the Kiwanis Club of Canandaigua and is open to the public.
