Fox to fill Ward 1 vacancy on Canandaigua City Council

Canandaigua City Council is expected to return to full strength Monday with the appointment of a new Ward 1 representative.

Teale Fox has been selected to fill the vacancy left by Michael Mills, who resigned after moving out of the city. Mills, a Democrat, had been elected to a four-year term in November 2023.

City officials said four applications were submitted for the position, though one candidate was deemed ineligible. Fox was interviewed alongside Jaden Hoffman and Ben Slomovic, with Fox and Slomovic identifying as Democrats and Hoffman as a Republican who previously ran for council in 2025.

Mayor Thomas Lyons said the formal appointment is expected to take place Monday, at which point the council will again be fully staffed.

Fox currently serves as vice chair of the city Planning Commission and is expected to bring that experience into the role as she steps into the council seat.
