A traffic stop in Wayne County led to the arrest of two individuals and additional drug charges after deputies say they discovered more narcotics during the encounter.
Michael Welch and Kimberly Tanner, both of Savannah, were arrested April 16 following a stop on Route 104 in the Town of Ontario, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Welch, who had pending drug charges, was observed driving eastbound and failed to yield to an emergency vehicle. Authorities also determined his license was suspended, leading to his arrest on outstanding charges that include multiple counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance involving cocaine and methamphetamine.
During the stop, deputies reported finding additional suspected crack cocaine on Welch and inside the vehicle. Both Welch and Tanner were subsequently charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree and one count of tampering with physical evidence.
Both were transported to the Wayne County Jail and are expected to appear for centralized arraignment proceedings.
