A Steuben County investigation into financial irregularities at a senior living facility has led to felony charges against an Allegany woman accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from residents.
New York State Police said Brenda L. Buck, 59, was arrested following an investigation that began after a corporate audit flagged issues with a cash account used for resident transactions at a facility in the town of Hornellsville.
Investigators determined that between March 2025 and March 2026, Buck—who was responsible for managing resident financial accounts—allegedly misappropriated approximately $46,020 in cash. Police said she also falsified business records and forged resident signatures to conceal the thefts.
Authorities said about 30 residents were affected by the fraudulent activity.
Buck was located by members of the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation on March 31 and transported to SP Hornell for processing. She was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a Class D felony, and falsifying business records in the first degree, a Class E felony.
She was transported to the Steuben County Jail for centralized arraignment.
