An Auburn man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a late-night traffic stop that escalated into a physical confrontation and additional damage at the sheriff’s office.
Michael J. Gatewood, 47, was arrested April 8 after deputies located his vehicle following a report of an unwanted guest who had left a scene and was believed to be driving intoxicated.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop after observing violations and determined Gatewood was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. Authorities also found his license had been revoked due to a prior DWI conviction, leading to additional felony charges.
During the arrest, deputies said Gatewood resisted by kicking at an officer. While being processed at the sheriff’s office, he is accused of urinating on the floor and intentionally damaging a toilet, resulting in additional charges including criminal mischief and criminal tampering.
Gatewood was arraigned and remanded without bail due to multiple prior felony convictions.
