A new public session aimed at explaining the health of Keuka Lake will bring together scientists and local stakeholders to break down years of water quality data for the community.
The Keuka Lake Association, in partnership with the Finger Lakes Institute, announced it will host a virtual “State of Keuka Lake: Water Quality Summary” presentation later this month.
The session, led by Dr. Lisa Cleckner, director of the Finger Lakes Institute at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, will provide an overview of monitoring efforts conducted across the lake and its surrounding watershed over the past several years.
Organizers said the event is intended to give residents, property owners, and other stakeholders a clearer understanding of current water quality conditions and the trends shaping the lake’s future.
The presentation will also highlight the collaborative work behind the data, including contributions from the Keuka Lake Association, Yates County Soil and Water Conservation District, and other local partners involved in ongoing monitoring efforts.
In advance of the session, the Finger Lakes Institute plans to release a series of short summaries outlining key findings, with community members encouraged to review the materials and submit questions ahead of time.
The virtual event is scheduled for April 29 from 5 to 6 p.m. and is free to attend, though registration is required to receive access details.
The Keuka Lake Association, which represents lakeshore property owners, residents, businesses, and recreational users, has long focused on issues including water quality, land use, lake levels, and conservation.
