Dash cams now required in ambulances

Ambulances across New York will soon record every move on the road, according to RochesterFirst. A new state mandate requires all EMS vehicles to install dash cameras to boost safety and accountability.

The cameras must capture both the driver and roadway, trigger during crashes, and store audio and video for at least 10 days. Many local agencies already use them to track speed, braking, and driving habits for training and liability protection.

Some smaller providers worry about cost, since the state isn’t funding the requirement. Still, agencies using the tech say it helps improve driver performance and provides real-time feedback.
