State issues recall for ‘Good Brain Tonic’ over botulism risk

A dietary beverage sold nationwide has been pulled from shelves after state officials identified a potentially deadly contamination risk tied to botulism.

Liquid Blenz Corp., based in Rockville Centre, is recalling all codes of its “Good Brain Tonic” product following testing that revealed the possibility of botulism contamination, according to a consumer alert issued this week.

Botulism is a rare but serious illness that can cause symptoms including weakness, dizziness, double vision, and difficulty speaking or swallowing. In more severe cases, it can lead to breathing problems, muscle paralysis, and death if untreated.

The product was distributed across the country through retail stores and online sales. It is packaged in 16-ounce and 32-ounce amber bottles with plastic caps. Officials said no illnesses have been reported so far.

The contamination risk was identified through analysis conducted by the Cornell Food Venture Center, along with field testing by inspectors from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.

Consumers who purchased the product are being urged not to consume it and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Anyone experiencing symptoms consistent with botulism is advised to seek immediate medical attention.

The company has provided a contact number for consumers with questions as the recall remains in effect.
