Rosario opened the scoring with a solo homer in the first, then delivered the decisive blow in the eighth after Giancarlo Stanton tied the game with an RBI single. The Yankees had been 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position before breaking through against Mark Leiter Jr. New York improved to 8-2 and has now won the opener of each series this season.

Cam Schlittler allowed three runs over 5.0 innings, surrendering five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. The Athletics took a 3-1 lead in the third on RBI doubles from Nick Kurtz and Tyler Soderstrom, marking the first runs allowed by Schlittler this season after 15 scoreless innings.

Aaron Civale limited the Yankees to one run on two hits across five innings, striking out six. But the Yankees’ bullpen shut the door from there, combining for 4.0 scoreless innings. Jake Bird, Brent Headrick, Fernando Cruz and David Bednar allowed just three hits while striking out five to keep the deficit at one before the late rally.
