Village officials in Union Springs are urging residents to stay alert after a report surfaced on social media describing a concerning interaction involving a child and an unknown adult.
According to a community notice shared by the village, the report claims a child playing outside was approached by a man wearing a baseball hat who allegedly attempted to lure the child by offering candy.
Officials emphasized that the information has not been independently verified but said the nature of the report is serious enough to warrant public awareness.
Mayor Robert Thurston Jr. said in the notice that behavior of this kind, if confirmed, would not be tolerated and urged residents to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings.
Village leaders are also encouraging parents to speak with their children about personal safety, including avoiding interactions with strangers and reporting anything that feels suspicious.
Anyone who observes suspicious activity is urged to contact 911 immediately.
