The Statesmen fell behind 3-0 in the first quarter as Delaware controlled possession and outshot Hobart 16-8 in the opening period. First-year goalie Michael Johnson kept Hobart within reach early, making five saves in the quarter and finishing with 13 stops over just more than 50 minutes.

Hobart responded in the second quarter, getting on the board with a goal from Slade Engstrom before Johnny Harding cut the deficit to one. Delaware answered with a three-goal run to take a 6-2 lead into halftime.

The Blue Hens extended their advantage early in the third quarter with an extra-man goal, but Hobart countered with goals from Engstrom and Daniel Cano to trim the deficit to 7-4. Delaware regained control with two late goals in the quarter to push the lead back to five.

Delaware added two more goals to open the fourth quarter, stretching the margin to 11-4. David Peterkin scored his 50th career goal for Hobart, and Connor DiTomasso added another shortly after, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.

Engstrom led the Statesmen with two goals, while Brady Comella collected a team-high four ground balls and Tyler Cavo recorded two caused turnovers.
