Watchdog questions senator’s legal aid use

A foreclosure case tied to a state senator is raising ethics concerns, according to WIVT. A watchdog group says Senator Lea Webb used free legal services from an organization she helped fund.

The Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York represented Webb in a mortgage case after missed payments. She had secured a $30,000 state grant for the group in 2024. Critics argue that creates the appearance of a conflict, even if her financial hardship is legitimate.

Webb says she’ll reimburse Legal Aid and insists the group accepts cases based on merit, not income. She calls the situation difficult and expects a resolution soon.
