Mets drop third straight in series-opening loss to Giants

The New York Mets fell to 3-4 on the season after a 7-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Thursday night at Oracle Park, extending their losing streak to three games as offensive struggles continued.

New York took an early lead in the first inning when Bo Bichette hit an RBI double to score Juan Soto, but San Francisco answered with three runs in the bottom half. David Peterson allowed an RBI triple and double, then committed a fielding error that allowed another run to score as the Giants moved ahead 3-1.

Mark Vientos cut the deficit to 3-2 with a solo home run in the second inning, but the Mets could not sustain the momentum. San Francisco added two runs in the third on sacrifice flies to extend the lead, and the Mets were unable to respond.
