A Central New York lawmaker is blasting state leaders as budget negotiations stretch past the April 1 deadline once again.
Assemblyman John Lemondes, R-C-LaFayette, issued a statement Tuesday criticizing Gov. Kathy Hochul and Democratic lawmakers for failing to pass an on-time state budget for the fifth consecutive year.
Lemondes said ongoing delays leave residents uncertain about state spending priorities while raising concerns about potential tax increases. He argued that repeated late budgets reflect broader issues with how Albany operates under one-party control.
In his statement, Lemondes compared the situation to workplace accountability, saying missed deadlines in government would not be tolerated in other settings. He also pointed to continued financial pressures facing New Yorkers as lawmakers negotiate spending plans.
State leaders have relied on short-term budget extenders to keep government operations running while negotiations continue. The final budget will determine funding levels and policy priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.
Lemondes represents the 126th Assembly District, which includes parts of Cayuga and Onondaga counties.
