Emergency crews in Ithaca responded to a report of a suspicious device downtown Tuesday afternoon, prompting a coordinated response from police and fire officials.
The Ithaca Police Department said the incident occurred just before 3 p.m. on March 31 in the 100 block of East Green Street.
According to authorities, firefighters used hazardous materials detection equipment to examine the device and determined it did not pose a known threat. The item was then turned over to the Endicott Police Department Bomb Squad for further evaluation.
Officials said the situation is believed to be isolated, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation remains active, and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward. Anonymous tips are also being accepted.
