A single word — “gullibility” — sealed the win for a Geneva eighth-grader, according to the Finger Lakes Times, at the Regional Spelling Bee in Palmyra. Logan Yuan clinched first place in the 11th round against 35 competitors.
Lyanna Cross of Marion finished second, while another Geneva student, Maria Kaim, took third. All three advanced through tough local competitions and studied thousands of words to qualify.
Yuan now heads to the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., after months of daily preparation. Organizers say the event highlights academic talent and gives students a chance to shine on a bigger stage.
