Hobart lacrosse faced a tough test against No. 2 Richmond, falling 24-8 on Saturday at Robins Stadium.
The Statesmen (2-7, 0-2) were led by sophomore Daniel Cano, who recorded a game-high three goals for his second hat trick of the season. Johnny Harding added two goals on three shots, while David Peterkin contributed a goal and an assist.
Hobart stayed within reach early, trailing 8-4 after the first quarter. Cano scored twice in the opening period, and goals from Slade Engstrom and Peterkin helped the Statesmen keep pace.
Cano opened the second quarter with his third goal, cutting the deficit to 8-5. However, Richmond seized control with an extended run, scoring eight straight goals over the final 10 minutes of the half to take a commanding lead into the break.
The Spiders continued to maintain control in the second half, outscoring Hobart 8-3 over the final two quarters. Harding scored once in the third and added another late in the fourth, while Connor DiTomasso also found the back of the net.
In goal, Brady Smith made six saves in the first half in his first career start, while Elhanan Wilson recorded eight saves over the final 30 minutes.
Richmond was led by Aidan O’Neil, who totaled five points on two goals and three assists, while controlling possession throughout.
Hobart will look to rebound on Saturday, April 4, traveling to face Delaware at 1 p.m. in Newark, Delaware.
