Cornell women’s lacrosse powered through tough conditions and a strong defensive effort to defeat Dartmouth 11-6 in an Ivy League matchup Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field.
The Big Red (7-3, 2-1 Ivy League) dictated play from the opening draw, relying on a disciplined defensive unit and balanced scoring to secure their fourth straight win. Despite a 14-5 disadvantage in draw controls, Cornell consistently forced turnovers and limited Dartmouth’s offensive rhythm.
After a tight first quarter, Cornell created separation in the second behind a 3-0 run sparked by Gretta White and Ellie Bergin. Lexie Tully added her second goal to extend the lead before Dartmouth answered late, sending Cornell into halftime with a 4-2 advantage.
The Big Red broke the game open in the third quarter, scoring six goals to build a commanding 10-3 lead. Bergin and Tully each completed hat tricks during the surge, while Ella Wilmot contributed two goals and two assists in a strong all-around performance.
Cornell finished with advantages in shots (26-18), shots on goal (19-13) and ground balls (17-8), highlighting control in key areas despite limited draw possession.
Dartmouth mounted a brief push in the fourth quarter with three goals, but Cornell’s defense held firm to close out the victory.
Six players recorded goals for the Big Red, showcasing offensive balance, while the defense anchored the performance with consistent pressure and timely stops.
Cornell returns to action Tuesday, hosting Syracuse at Schoellkopf Field with a 7 p.m. start.
