A local DAR chapter and the Finger Lakes Library System will host an art contest for youth across Tompkins and Seneca counties. The contest invites participants ages 18 and under to create artwork marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Ten public libraries will collect submissions during April. Organizers will accept entries through April 30.
Participants must submit original artwork in landscape format on standard 8.5-by-11-inch paper. Entries must use shades of red, white, blue, and yellow, with optional text limited to four words.
Children may create artwork at home or at a participating library. The contest is open to youth throughout most of the two counties.
A review group will select 25 pieces for a public showcase. Organizers plan to display the selected artwork on a digital billboard starting in July through the end of the year.
All participants who submit valid entries will receive certificates.
One library in Seneca Falls will not participate due to a scheduling conflict, but youth in that area may submit work to other participating libraries.
