No. 8 Syracuse women’s lacrosse edges UAlbany to extend win streak to eight

No. 8 Syracuse women’s lacrosse (8-3, 4-2 ACC) pushed its win streak to eight games with a 10-8 win over UAlbany (7-3, 2-0 America East) on Tuesday afternoon at John Fallon Field.

Syracuse set the tone early, jumping out to a 4-2 lead after the first quarter behind two goals from Caroline Trinkaus and additional tallies from Molly Guzik and Annie Parker. Trinkaus completed her hat trick with a man-up goal in the second quarter, while Mackenzie Rich and Emma Muchnick added scores to give the Orange a 7-5 advantage at halftime.

The Orange tightened defensively in the third quarter, holding UAlbany scoreless while adding a goal to extend the lead to 8-5. Syracuse’s defense forced 12 turnovers in the game and limited quality chances throughout the decisive stretch.

Muchnick and Trinkaus led the offense with three goals apiece, while Guzik found the back of the net to extend her goal-scoring streak to 11 consecutive games. Daniella Guyette recorded four saves in net to anchor the defensive effort.

UAlbany mounted a late push in the fourth quarter, scoring three times to cut the deficit to 9-7. Muchnick responded with a key goal midway through the period to restore a cushion. The Great Danes added another goal in the final minutes, but Syracuse held firm defensively, highlighted by a late forced turnover from Courtney Maclay to seal the win.
