Newark honors longtime code enforcement officer

Village officials in Newark recognized a longtime employee for two decades of service.

Roger VanDeMortel was honored for 20 years as a code enforcement officer with the village.

Officials said VanDeMortel previously worked for New York State before transitioning into his role with the village.

They credited him with bringing experience and knowledge to the position.

Mayor Jonathan Taylor said, “Roger has been a devoted and conscientious employee. The Village was fortunate to have him and we wish him well in his retirement.”

Code Enforcement Officer Joe Vanni said VanDeMortel played a key role in helping others learn the department’s operations and was known for his reliability.
