A decisive win is setting up changes in how a small village governs, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. Matthew Schaertl defeated longtime local leader Bob Woodhams 129-88 to earn a seat on the Shortsville Village Board.
Schaertl plans to push for expanding the board from three members to five, arguing more voices will lead to better decisions. The idea could go to a public vote if approved.
He also wants multi-year budgeting, especially for equipment planning. Schaertl says the goal is simple: bring standard, more efficient processes to village government.
