Syracuse women’s basketball falls to Louisville in ACC Tournament quarterfinal

Syracuse women’s basketball saw its run in the Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament end Friday night with a loss to Louisville in the quarterfinal round. The No. 7 seed Orange fell to the No. 2 seed Cardinals, finishing the game at Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia.

Uche Izoje led Syracuse with 22 points, marking her ninth 20-point game of the season and her third consecutive contest scoring at least 20. Sophie Burrows added double figures for the 17th time this season, while Jasmyn Cooper recorded a career-high 11 points and five rebounds in a career-best 18 minutes. Syracuse also finished with nine steals and six blocks.

Louisville built an early advantage, holding Syracuse scoreless for nearly the first three minutes before pulling away to a 25-12 lead after the opening quarter. The Orange responded in the second period behind three straight baskets from Izoje and a three-pointer from Cooper, outscoring the Cardinals 21-20 in the quarter. Syracuse trailed 45-33 at halftime.

Burrows sparked Syracuse early in the third quarter with a 7-0 run that included a layup and a 3-pointer. The Orange tightened defensively, recording two blocks and four steals while holding Louisville scoreless for nearly five minutes. However, the Cardinals maintained control and carried a 62-47 lead into the final quarter.

Syracuse continued to battle in the fourth, but Louisville pulled away to secure the victory.
