Pittsford man stays in Israel during war

Missile alerts and bomb shelter runs now shape daily life for a young man from the Rochester area studying in Israel, according to Spectrum News 1.

Nathan Schaff, 24, of Pittsford is spending a year in Jerusalem between college and graduate school with plans to become a rabbi. He says sirens and alerts have sent residents to bomb shelters multiple times a day since the conflict escalated.

While the Trump administration has urged Americans to leave the Middle East, Schaff plans to stay. He says strong community support and his studies are keeping him there, and he hopes to return home in August.
